For more than 30 years, I was the principal of a nursery school. Every day, I worked alongside teachers who gave everything they had to the children in their care — patient, dedicated, and deeply committed to getting early childhood development right.

Early childhood education is built on passion. On knowing each child's name, their quirks, their fears, their small victories. On being present in those first years of learning in a way that shapes a child's relationship with education for the rest of their life.

But behind the scenes of every nursery school in South Africa, there is another reality.

Over time, these small frustrations do not stay small. They accumulate into daily stress — for principals, for teachers, and eventually for the quality of care that reaches the children.

I watched this happen for three decades. I experienced it myself. And I knew that the tools available to South African nursery schools — either generic international software built for primary schools, or spreadsheets and paper registers held together by dedication alone — were not good enough for the people doing the most important work in our education system.

So I built something better.

Every feature in EarlyTrack was built to solve a problem we experienced directly. The AI-powered comment assistance exists because we watched teachers sit at home at night, exhausted, trying to find the right words for the thirtieth report of the evening. The bilingual English and Afrikaans support exists because South Africa is a bilingual country and Afrikaans-medium nursery schools have been excluded from modern school management tools for too long. The digital attendance register exists because paper registers fail in ways that matter — and the staff leave management module exists because a principal should not have to track leave balances in their head.
